The casting for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming untitled event film, scheduled for release on May 15, 2026, is already generating major excitement. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Eve Hewson is in early talks to star in the highly anticipated project. Hewson, who recently starred alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning in Netflix’s limited series The Perfect Couple, is no stranger to working with Spielberg. The two previously collaborated on Bridge of Spies (2015), where Hewson played opposite Tom Hanks in a Cold War espionage thriller.
Hewson’s acting career continues to rise, with notable performances in Bad Sisters, Flora and Son, The Knick, and This Must Be The Place. If confirmed, Spielberg’s new film would add to her impressive resume, offering her a significant role in what is expected to be another blockbuster project.
Spielberg’s untitled film is based on a story written by the legendary filmmaker himself. The screenplay is being penned by David Koepp, a frequent Spielberg collaborator known for his work on Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie will be produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger, who has worked with Spielberg on The Fabelmans and West Side Story. While specific details about the plot remain under wraps, rumors suggest that the film could delve into the theme of UFOs, a subject Spielberg famously explored in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The upcoming project follows Spielberg’s 2022 semi-autobiographical film, The Fabelmans, which received seven Oscar nominations, including best picture, best original screenplay, and best director. With the combined talents of Spielberg, Koepp, and Macosko Krieger behind the scenes, the untitled 2026 film is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
