Sophie Turner, best known for her Emmy-nominated portrayal of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is reportedly in negotiations to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series. Sources confirm to Deadline that Turner is a frontrunner for the high-profile project, helmed by Emmy-winning creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). While Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment, this exclusive report aligns with earlier news that Turner was among those who tested for the role.

The Tomb Raider series is a passion project for Waller-Bridge, who will serve as writer and executive producer. Announcing the series order in May, Waller-Bridge expressed her enthusiasm for reimagining the legendary archaeologist. “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all,” she said.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, described the project as “epic” and “globe-trotting,” signaling the series will honor the adventurous spirit of the beloved video game franchise, which was previously brought to the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

The series is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Legendary Television, and Crystal Dynamics, the rights holders behind the Tomb Raider franchise. Waller-Bridge will executive produce alongside Jenny Robins (Wells Street Productions), Dmitri M. Johnson (dj2 Entertainment), Michael Scheel, and others.

Turner’s casting would mark a major return to the global spotlight for the actress, who recently headlined the British crime drama Joan and is set to star in the upcoming Prime Video series Haven.

Who Should Play Lara Croft?

As Turner edges closer to signing on, fans are buzzing about the casting. Lara Croft is one of gaming’s most iconic characters, and each actress who has embodied her—whether Jolie’s action-star take or Vikander’s grittier portrayal—has brought something unique to the role.

What do you think? Is Sophie Turner the perfect pick for this epic role, or is there another actress you’d rather see take up Lara’s bow and arrow?
