Sam Altman is an American entrepreneur, investor, and tech executive, best known as the co-founder and CEO of OpenAI. Born on April 22, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois, he studied computer science at Stanford University before dropping out to launch the location-based social app Loopt. He later became president of Y Combinator, one of Silicon Valley’s most influential startup accelerators. In 2015, Altman co-founded OpenAI with the goal of ensuring artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. He briefly made global headlines in 2023 when he was abruptly fired and then reinstated as CEO of OpenAI in a matter of days.
