The main character in “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” is an unnamed protagonist. She is a young, beautiful, and wealthy Columbia University graduate living in New York City. Despite her seemingly perfect life, she is deeply unhappy and decides to spend a year in a drug-induced sleep to escape her existential angst and reset her life. Her experiences and interactions with other characters, particularly her psychiatrist Dr. Tuttle and her best friend Reva, drive the narrative as she pursues this unconventional form of self-care.
