Netflix has ordered the series straight to series, from New Regency and Plan B, written & directed by Jane Schoenbrun (of I Saw the TV Glow).
The premise: A small town (Roosevelt) is haunted by a myth: if you have sex too young you contract “the Bug,” a virus that literally turns you into a monster. A teenage girl (Chris) picks up the virus after a reckless night. She’s forced to live with the other infected in the woods — and a serial killer begins hunting them one by one.
The original graphic novel (set in suburban Seattle in the mid-1970s) follows a group of high-schoolers who contract a mysterious sexually-transmitted plague, and deals with alienation, mutation, teenage sex, and horror.
