Filming has officially commenced on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and with production underway, new casting updates have been revealed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham have joined the cast as Kara Zor-El’s parents. The two will star alongside Milly Alcock, who plays the titular Supergirl, as well as Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jason Momoa, who is set to appear as Lobo.

While the report confirms Krumholtz and Beecham as Kara’s parents, it does not specify which set of parents they will portray. In DC Comics lore, Kara Zor-El has two sets of parental figures. Her biological parents, Zor-El and Alura, sent her to Earth from Krypton as their home planet faced imminent destruction. However, her spacecraft’s delayed arrival resulted in her landing on Earth long after her cousin Kal-El (Superman), who was already grown. On Earth, Kara is later adopted by Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers, who become her surrogate parents.

Given that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is based on the acclaimed comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, it seems likely that Krumholtz and Beecham will portray Zor-El and Alura. The story explores Kara’s journey across the galaxy as she grapples with personal trauma and memories of her past. The comic follows Kara on her 21st birthday as she teams up with a young girl named Ruthye to seek vengeance against Krem, the man who murdered Ruthye’s father. These themes of loss and reflection make Kara’s Kryptonian heritage a natural fit for the film’s narrative.

Directed by Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership. The film is slated to debut in theaters on June 26, 2026.
