Daniel Day-Lewis will return to acting in Anemone, directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. The film, from Focus Features and Plan B, is Ronan’s directorial debut and marks Daniel Day-Lewis’ first role since 2017’s Phantom Thread, following his retirement announcement.
The father-son team co-wrote the script, which explores familial relationships, particularly among fathers, sons, and brothers. The cast includes Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator,” said Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski. “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”
The film’s creative team includes Ben Fordesman as director of photography, Jane Petrie as costume designer, and Chris Oddy as production designer. Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution.
