The main character in “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” is an unnamed young woman. A beautiful and wealthy Columbia University graduate residing in New York City, she appears to have an ideal life. However, she is profoundly unhappy and decides to spend a year in a drug-induced sleep to escape her existential angst and restart her life. The story follows her experiences and interactions with others, especially her eccentric psychiatrist Dr. Tuttle and her best friend Reva, as she embarks on this unconventional quest for self-care.
