about the actor

Robert Douglas Thomas Pattinson (born May 13, 1986) is an English actor known for his versatility and transformative performances in a wide range of genres. Rising to global fame as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga film series (2008–2012), Pattinson has since redefined his career through critically acclaimed roles in independent films and mainstream blockbusters, including his portrayal of the titular superhero in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022).

Born in London, England, Pattinson began his acting career in local theatre before landing his first major film role as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). This marked his entry into the film industry and set the stage for his breakout role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. The series, based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novels, was a global phenomenon, grossing over $3 billion worldwide and making Pattinson a household name.

Following Twilight, Pattinson deliberately pursued roles in smaller, auteur-driven projects to distance himself from his heartthrob image. He collaborated with acclaimed directors such as David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis, 2012; Maps to the Stars, 2014), Claire Denis (High Life, 2018), and the Safdie Brothers (Good Time, 2017). His performance in Good Time, as a desperate bank robber navigating New York City’s underworld, received widespread critical praise and solidified his reputation as a serious actor.

Pattinson returned to mainstream cinema with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet (2020), a sci-fi thriller where he played Neil, a mysterious and charming operative. In 2022, he took on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Batman, delivering a brooding and nuanced interpretation of the iconic character. The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning over $770 million worldwide and sparking anticipation for future sequels.

In addition to acting, Pattinson is a musician and model. He has contributed original songs to film soundtracks, including Twilight, and served as the face of Dior Homme since 2013.

Pattinson has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts, supporting organizations such as the GO Campaign, which focuses on helping vulnerable children worldwide.
