Deadline exclusively reports that Gravitas Ventures has picked up U.S. and Canadian rights to Don’t Fall in Love With Yourself, a documentary on musician-artist-actor Justin Pearson. Directed by Jon Nix, the film will be available starting August 20 through Gravitas’ hybrid distribution on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, and Apple TV.

The documentary follows Pearson’s journey from childhood trauma to his involvement in the San Diego punk scene, his work with bands like The Locust and Swing Kids, his acting roles, and his rise to cult status. Nix said he’s wanted to make the film for years, calling Pearson the embodiment of the San Diego noise music scene.

Gravitas’ Bill Guentzler said, “This documentary rocks and gives a fascinating look at Pearson’s creative mind.” Pearson added that the film captures his life’s “absurd ride” and hopes audiences, new or familiar, will enjoy it.

Produced by TurnStyle Films, the documentary is executive produced by Matthew Chojnacki. Gravitas Ventures specializes in bringing independent films to wide audiences worldwide.

Given Justin Pearson’s fascinating and unconventional career, Don’t Fall in Love With Yourself could easily inspire a full-blown biopic. His journey from the San Diego punk scene to cult celebrity status is rich with drama, humor, and heart—perfect for the big screen.
